Assisted Living
Some of our residents choose assisted living for the comfort, safety, and peace of mind it provides, while others rely on the added support with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, or managing medications. Every resident comes to us with unique needs, preferences, and stories—just as no two homes in a neighborhood are ever the same. That’s why we take a truly personal approach to care, offering more than just assistance. From tailored wellness programs and engaging, customized activities to flexible dining options and everyday choices that foster independence, we create an environment where each individual feels supported, valued, and at home.

Activities of daily living explained
Activities of daily living (ADLs) are the essential tasks we perform every day to care for ourselves and maintain well-being, such as eating, bathing, dressing, using the bathroom, and moving around. More complex tasks, called instrumental ADLs (IADLs), include managing finances, preparing meals, shopping, managing medications, and maintaining a household. Medical conditions, aging, or cognitive changes can make some or all of these tasks difficult, and support may be needed temporarily—such as after surgery—or long-term for chronic conditions.
Healthcare providers assess ADLs and IADLs to determine the level of support someone may need and to identify ways to maintain independence and safety. Assessments can involve observation, caregiver input, or self-reporting. Based on these evaluations, providers may suggest simple home modifications, assistive devices, caregiving support, or alternative living arrangements like assisted living. Regular assessment ensures that support evolves as needs change, helping individuals stay safe, independent, and well cared for.
Basic ADLs
Assessing an individual's ability to complete each ADL can help determine whether a patient needs daily assistance:
- Ambulating: The Extent of an individual’s ability to move from 1 position to another and walk independently.
- Feeding: The Ability of an individual to feed oneself.
- Dressing: The ability to select appropriate clothes and to put them on.
- Personal hygiene: The ability to bathe and groom oneself and maintain dental hygiene, nail, and hair care.
- Continence: The ability to control bladder and bowel function.
- Toileting: The ability to get to and from the toilet, use it appropriately, and clean oneself afterward.
Instrumental ADLs
Instrumental ADLs require more complex thinking skills, including organizational skills. These activities are as follows:
- Transportation: Driving or arranging travel.
- Finances: Paying bills and managing assets.
- Shopping: Tracking needed items and procuring groceries, clothing, or household products.
- Meal preparation: Operating cooking devices, storing food, and preparing meals.
- Housekeeping and maintenance: Washing dishes, keeping living areas tidy, and handling home upkeep.
- Communication: Managing mail and phone use.
- Medications: Obtaining and taking prescriptions.
